Hygiene Services
Registered Dental Hygienists will provide complete periodontal examination including gingival probing. Treatment provided may include tooth prophylaxis, scaling, root planing, fluoride, and oral hygiene instruction. There is a definite emphasis on patient comfort throughout the appointment. With two hygienists at Nordstrom Dental we have a short wait time for cleanings, and can accommodate more frequent recall schedules if required.

Fillings
The team at Nordstrom Dental use both composite (white) fillings and amalgam (silver) fillings depending on the location and nature of the filling. White fillings are best for front teeth where they will match the tooth in which they are placed. Silver fillings are best suited for back teeth because they are stronger than white fillings. If you wish to not have any silver fillings please advise Dr. Nordstrom and he will be happy to provide only white fillings.

Sealants
Sealants are plastic covers that are placed into the deep grooves of posterior adult teeth when they grow into the mouth. They prevent cavities from starting and are recommended for all children between the ages of 6 and 13. Because they do not require any freezing, all children tolerate the procedure very well.

Veneers
Veneers are esthetic restorations that are placed on the outside surface of your front teeth to improve the shape and/or whiteness of your teeth.

Crowns
Crowns are used to restore and rebuild badly broken teeth, and/or protect teeth that have had root canals from cracking in the future. The team at Nordstrom Dental offers three types of crowns: full gold, white porcelain fused to gold, and all-porcelain crowns with no metal in them. The all-porcelain crowns are used primarily for front teeth because they are more esthetic and life-like than porcelain fused to metal crowns. Crowns with metal in them are stronger and best suited for back teeth.

Bridges
Bridges are used to replace missing teeth, and can also be made from gold, porcelain fused to gold, or all-porcelain depending on the location and nature of the bridge. Bridges are being done less and less as more people are choosing titanium implants to replace missing teeth.

Dental Implants
Dental implants are titanium screws that are placed into the jawbone where a tooth has been lost. After letting the implant heal for a period of time, a new tooth can be attached to the implant. Implants have several advantages over bridges: They do not require the preparation of the teeth adjacent to a missing tooth, and also, they are easier to clean than a bridge because they can be flossed as easily as normal teeth. Implants can also be placed underneath existing dentures to provide more support for chewing and prevent the dentures from becoming dislodged during chewing and speaking. Root Canals
When a tooth dies it can be very painful. Root canals remove the dead tissue from the inside of a tooth so that the bone and gums that support the tooth can heal. In most cases, teeth that have root canals must also have a crown done to prevent it from cracking or breaking in the future because root canal treated teeth become more brittle over time.

Extractions
Dr. Nordstrom’s general practice in the Yukon had an emphasis on extractions, and he is competent in the removal of intact or badly broken down teeth.

Oral Surgery
Dr. Nordstrom is also accomplished in the removal of most wisdom teeth and also in full mouth extractions for dentures. However, Dr. Nordstrom does not have the facilities required to put you to sleep for the procedure, and if you would prefer to be asleep for the extractions, Dr. Nordstrom will refer you to a specialist in Edmonton.

Tooth Whitening
The team at Nordstrom Dental offers two types of tooth whitening; the take-home kit with whitening trays you sleep with, and the one-hour laser whitening. The one-hour laser whitening is more expensive than the take home kit, but the results are more intense and immediate. The Nordstrom Dental team recommends the one-hour laser whitening for best results. Click here for more information on Zoom! Laser Tooth Whitening.

Night Guards/Sports Guards
If you suffer from bruxism (grinding or clenching you teeth at night) the team at Nordstrom Dental can fabricate a Splint (or Night Guard) which is a thin plastic bite plate you wear on your teeth at night to prevent grinding and relax your jaw muscles. If you play sports you are most likely required to wear a Sports Guard. Nordstrom Dental will fabricate your Sports Guards in house and have it ready for you in 24 hours.
